Dermot Donald Bly Missing Find Deceased, Body Found, Identified as Missing Clinton Man

CORDOVA, Ill. – The search for a missing Clinton man has ended tragically with the discovery of his body. The Rock Island County Coroner’s Office confirmed the remains found Tuesday night near the 700 block of Main Avenue in Cordova are those of 30-year-old Dermot Bly.

According to Coroner Brian Gustafson, the preliminary cause of death is presumed drowning. Bly had been reported missing after he was last seen on video surveillance on the morning of April 16, running across the north bridge from Clinton, Iowa, to Fulton, Illinois. He was wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans, and brown hiking shoes.

His family grew concerned after finding his Clinton apartment door unlocked and open last Thursday. Inside, his billfold containing his identification and cards was left behind, along with his necessary medications. Bly, who did not drive, was on foot. He had significant medical history, including a craniotomy a year ago due to a brain bleed, with a large scar hidden beneath his hair. Distinctive identifiers included a Shamrock tattoo on his back.

The Clinton Police Department had previously expressed concern, noting Bly had several medical conditions and had not been heard from since April 16. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death continues.
