We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Craig Edmund Sumner, engineer extraordinaire and a dear friend of the Rocket Center. Craig passed away on April 27th following complications from recent surgery, leaving our community in profound shock and mourning.

Craig’s life was defined by a brilliant dedication to space exploration. For many years, his engineering expertise and passion contributed directly to advancing our reach into the cosmos. Beyond his technical contributions, he was a cherished fixture at the Rocket Center, where his presence was both respected and warmly welcomed.

The news of his sudden departure, believed to be the result of a post-operative blood clot, has sent waves of grief through all who knew him. After falling ill at home, he was transported to Huntsville hospital, where he ultimately passed.

We extend our deepest gratitude for Craig’s many years of service and friendship. His legacy is etched into the very missions and exhibits he helped build. Now, we ask that you join us in holding his family close in thought and prayer. Please keep his wife, Linda, his son Aaron, his daughter Carrie, and their entire families in your hearts as they navigate this unimaginable loss.
